Review of 'The Peak Lookout'

The Peak Lookout is a Peak institution located across from the Peak tram station for many years now. It is a spectacular location with a large outdoor eating area around the back surrounded by trees and looking out over the Pok Fu Lam Reservoir, and Kong Sin Wan Tseun on the far side of Hong Kong island. The restaurant itself is fashioned after a villa in the Alps. In many ways it is this view that you are paying for - And it is a high price indeed - But if yo…

Review of 'Jumbo Kingdom (NOW CLOSED)'

Known the world over, Jumbo Kingdom or Jumbo Floating Restaurant is a landmark restaurant found in Aberdeen Harbour. The lights that cover almost all surfaces of this barge permanently moored in the harbour are easy to stop from miles away. I have visited many times in the past as it is a fun place to visit and the food is not half bad either

Review of 'Maxime's Palace'

We had a bit of difficulty finding Maxime's Palace but it was worth it. From the main city hall entrance we went through the courtyard to the “Low Block” part of city hall that has various restaurants, shops and theatres. You would never guess all of this was back there but many people seem to know it.

Review of 'Tim Ho Wan'

Known as the cheapest Michelin-starred restaurant in the world, Tim Ho Wan is mecca for Dim Sum lovers visiting Hong Kong. It is worth the trip. Difficult to find it is found outside of the Olympic City (2) shopping centre near Olympic MTR (it is on the far side, you must leave the mall and go around the side). Taking the advise of what we had seen on the Internet we showed up in the afternoon to avoid the notorious queues that form here.

Review of 'DimDimSum'

A small, unassuming restaurant, it is notable from the rest of the neighbouring shops only in that it's front windows are plastered with amazing reviews from various newspapers and, of course, the unusual name. The small narrow interior belies the experimental approach to dim sum.

Review of 'Tonkichi Tonkatsu'

A wonderfully authentic Tonkatsu Japanese restaurant located on the 4th floor of the World Trade Center in Causeway Bay. When we visited for lunch we were taken along the length of the restaurant to the room overlooking the harbour (and the noon-day gun across Gloucester Road immediately outside). We were seated in a booth beside the window.

Review of 'Congee King'

This small restaurant in the heart of old Wan Chai has a clean white interior with booths around the outside of the room.

Has to be the best congee (rice soup) I have ever had in my life. Ok, they may not have tea available, but you come here for the congee. Pick any flavour from the menu and you will not be disappointed. The flavour is rich and deep - Very, very moorish.

Mak's Noodle has been around since the 1960s with it's first shop in Central it has expanded to a number of other locations including this one that we visited in The Peak Galleria. The branch is hard to miss on the far left hand side of the mall with a glass window looking into the kitchen where the noodles are made.

Hong Kong

Hong Kong has to be one of my favourite places in the world. With it's hustle and bustle it is full of surprises. The food scene is incredibly vibrant where you are as likely to find fantastic food available from a small restaurant stall on the street as you are in one of their Michelin-starred restaurants. Gone are the days of people selling dim sum from a cart in the road but you can still find great food at great prices just about everywhere you look.
