While in the Crewe area (but not Crewe) looking at houses it was time for dinner. The choices on offer as we drove around seemed to be pretty much the standard: McDonalds, Pizza Hut, a few Thai takeaways, fish & chips

Having recently moved to the area we learned that there was this Indian restaurant in Crewe that was quite good: Passage to India. Located on the Nantwich road a short distance from both the train station and football stadium, Passage to India is well positioned for clientele. We attended early on a Saturday evening having made a reservation in advance. This was a good idea as although there were only a few tables occupied when we arrived by the time we left t…

Having just moved to the area we are beginning our explorations of local eating emporiums. “The Townhouse” is an impressive looking building behind the high on Mill Street, with (unusually) it's own parking lot that you have to pass through to get to the rather imposing main entrance. It has a large indoor seating area on the right that is obviously suitable for event booking as well as a bar area to the left. It always seems to be busy so if you want to…

Reading some comments on a community web site I read that Churches Mansion is supposed to serve up the best Sunday Roast in Nantwich. Eager to put this to the test, we visited for lunch on Easter Sunday.

When you drive into Nantwich from the east you pass by the distinctive Churches Mansion on a roundabout - A building from 1577 with it's distinctive tutor architecture, yes, wonky beams a-plenty. We had thought it might be difficult to get a reservation at fa…

Having not been terribly impressed so far with the restaurant scene in Nantwich, our new home, I was recently encouraged by my mother to try more places in the hope of finding something we like. Having been somewhat impressed by Death by Tacos in Chester at the Chester Indoor Market I once again found myself roaming the room for another taste of excellent street food and I definitely found that in “Thai by Thai”, located near the butchers near the entrance from the mall. So, you know what Venezuelan food is right? Ok, ok, it is South American and likely has more than a bit of influence from Spain. So, sure, Empanadas, but what else? Imagine our surprise when first moving to Nantwich to discover a small hole-in-the-wall Venezuelan café. Having lived in Nantwich for more than six months we have noticed the rather understated, but sleek looking Italian restaurant “Romazzino” as we pass on the narrow pavement on Main Street towards Welsh Row. It always seems to be packed and looks quite different than the other restaurants of the town - A bit nicer, perhaps? Or just a bit more stylish and modern? We were determined to give it a go and so we did early on a Friday night, lucky that we were able to get a …

Once a year, my companion celebrates her birthday. Every single year. On your birthday you pick where you want to eat so in this case she chose the local “St. Martha” Greek restaurant which we have heard good thing about. Located just outside the town centre on Hospital Street just around the corner from the Morrisons this small restaurant (reservations required) might be easy to miss but is well worth a visit.
