When there are so many better options around this restaurant definitely deserves a miss. If you are looking for an OK (but nothing to really write home about) steak in reasonable surroundings then this is the place for you. If you are looking for a bit of variety and a good price then go elsewhere. VERY 1970s.

An attractive offer of £12 for all you can eat sushi attracts many people from the street though there are set meals available they are far less economical. Even more unbelievable is that soup and fried noodle dishes are also available included in the £12 price. No where near the quality of Yo Sushi! (see below), gili gulu offers a reasonable selection of dishes including many (suprisingly enough) raw fish dishes. The service tends towards the non-existant but the staff…

There are a number of these restaurants across London which offer a basic selection of Italian meals in very clean, cool surroundings. The food tends a bit on the heavy (and greasy) side for me but is quite tasty. Prices are reasonable though the waiters are quite indifferent

My first foray into the world (literally) of Terrence Conran restaurants was quite a pleasurable one. Set in an unlikely location, this restaurant has two levels, the basement serving modern European and the “Mezzonine” serving contemporary Asian, in a open and vibrant (read: noisy with lots of people about) environment. The food is well presented and prepared with the freshest ingredients. Service is polite (if rather hurried considering the size of the place) and quite re…

A small eatery away from the hustle of many of the other restaurants on Charlotte Street Navarro's is a bit of a hidden gem serving some of the best Tapas in London. The menu is a single large sheet only listing the various Tapas dishes they serve. Of particular interest are the Chorizo Sausages in Olive Oil and the Octopus. The Oxo Tower Brasserie is located side by side with it's pretentious restaurant cousin, sharing it's tremendous views of the Thames from the 8th floor of the Oxo Tower building, but not sharing it's pricier menu. A pretty good take on the trend started by Wagamama serving up various noodle soups, dishes and rice dishes. It is a small, but clean restaurant just south of Oxford Street right near Oxford Circus. The food is quite good but does not quite have the sparkle of Wagamama (which perhaps explains why Soba has just one store). A few small tables on the pavement (not recommended with the amount of traffic going by on Askew Road) outside give this restaurant an air of welcome about it. There are many places to eat in London. An obvious statement. However, there are not than many places you can actually get a good meal. Far fewer than there are eating establishments. See also my Taste of London information.

It is only recently that decent restaurants have begun to appear in London. Eating at such restaurants tends to be expensive (it is not unusual to pay £50 or more for a meal).

Every June/July Regent's Park plays host to the Taste of London event which allows you to try dishes from many famous (and not so famous) restaurants around the capital. A bit of a warning: It is expensive -- After the entry fee you then have to purchase tickets that can be exchanged for dishes served up by the various restaurants present. Each restaurant offers up to three dishes (typically two dishes and a dessert) which typifies the type/style of cui…
