A tremendous follow-up to the original Kro Bar located just down the road opposite Manchester University. A very modern look to the restaurant with glass walls and a very modern interior. Known for having the best breakfasts in town, I took them up on this and gave it a try

Review of 'KroBar'

After visiting Kro2 (see my review) the previous day I was disappointed to find that their was no one in the kitchen to cook my breakfast despite it being very close to 10 in the morning. When it did arrive I was disappointed to find the meal greasy and not nearly as nice as Kro2. The ambiance is one of old-style university pub with a lot of good fresh cakes as well as beers on offer. The service was spotty but I imagine it was just the time of day. Worth a visit.

Review of 'Yang Sing'

Touted as one of the best restaurants in Manchester and the best Chinese restaurant outside of London I just had to visit this one. Arriving at the restaurant one is presented with a large multi-story building with dim sum typically served in the basement while the main floor is for dinner. I arrived for dim sum so descended into a dark but adequately lit basement decorated in a very modern style with cosy little nooks along the walls. It took some time for them to f…

Review of 'Mr. Thomas's Chop House'

I visited this small pub/restaurant on a Saturday evening with the pub completely packed into the rather narrow, long interior. The restaurant is to the back of this very old establishment (quite a traditional place to visit in Manchester). I made my way to a seat at the very back of the restaurant but was still very much disturbed by the crowd around the bar at the far end (separated from the restaurant by a single podium that bar-goers tended to ignore…

Review of 'Barburrito'

This is a fast-food style eatery located right on Piccadilly Gardens in the middle of the city. It serves up a variety of “Mexican” food including burritos (as in the name) as well as nachos and other similar fast-food. The prices are, as you might expect, quite good though I found the food quite bland. The various (real) Tabasco sauces (not just the hot sauce but others such as

Being in the area I looked at several web sites about the best place to eat in Manchester's “Curry Mile”. Time and time again “Mughli Charcoal Pit” came up so we decided to give it a go. Parking, as always, was a bit of a challenge in the area but we found a spot a few streets away on the pavement outside of someone's house

On another trip to Manchester I was looking once again for a fix of dim sum in Chinatown so having done a bit of searching online I came up with “Happy Seasons” being a particularly good choice so we made our way to Faulkner Street and joined the queue, generally a good sign on a Friday afternoon, to wait for a table. After about 30 minutes we were shown inside to our table to the left of the door in the window with a great view of others waiting to come in.

In Manchester looking for somewhere to eat we stumbled across this basement restaurant in Chinatown - Mei Dim Restaurant. One thing I find interesting about big cities such as Manchester is that there are always new interesting restaurants popping up. Recently I stumbled across “Soup Co” a stones throw from Piccadilly Gardens in the heart of Manchester. There was something immediately appealing about the place with the glass front allowing me to see into what looked to be a busy interior. I was able to see people eating from very large tasty looking bowls of so…

Manchester was once a working-class city not known for it's food. Now, with the “Curry Mile” and a contemporary city centre this is no longer true. Now famous chefs are itching to make their presence known. The style here is no nonsense, good cooking.
