London Canal Museum

Visitors and locals alike often forget that there is a whole network of canals that were created to deliver goods to London and beyond. Many of these canals still exist and are used now for pleasure often with paths alongside to take in their natural surroundings.

[Main Entrance]

Located in Kensington at the south end of Holland Park (nearest tube station “High Street Kensington” or even “Holland Park”), the new Design Museum is an absolute destination of note in London. The building is modern and spacious yet welcoming at the same time. Despite the rather austere exterior entering you are in the middle of a magnificent atrium with staircases that provide access to both permanent and temporary exhibits.

Handel & Hendrix in London

An unusual museum, this takes in the neighbouring flats owned by Handel and Jimi Hendrix. The first floor of one of the two buildings houses the Handel section of the museum while the second (upper) floor of the other houses the Hendrix section connected by staircases. There is a small gift shop that has a great selection of music, books and posters.

[British Museum]

As there are so many museums in London I have decided to devote a whole section to them. Unlike other cities, most museums in London are free. Museums of London tend to be VERY good full of a LOT of material and well-put-together exhibits:

Yeah, I am a bit of a stamp geek having a bit of a collection myself but this museum is likely to appeal to anyone with even a passing interest in the postal system. Not too big to bore and an exciting authentic ride to boot! Really worth visiting despite being in Holborn, a bit away from transport (nearest tube is Farringdon, Chancery Lane or even Kings Cross) and other major attractions in London.

[Wellcome Collection]

Located across the street from Euston Station, The “Wellcome Collection” is owned and operated by the pharmaceutical group “The Wellcome Trust” and has various exhibits, a reading room, library and a café. Access to all is free including free storage lockers (handy if you are visiting while travelling to/from Euston), and Wi-Fi. Though not massive, it is a pleasant, relaxed place to visit for a few hours with interesting things to see.
