Thurso

A lovely little town with a small town centre and a lot of history.

There is a small tourist information agency on the waterfront with a small shop and it's own parking.

John O Groats

Commonly known as the most northern most point in mainland Britain, John O Groats is, perhaps, the most touristy of all destinations in the North of Scotland. Of course, as it commonly is with such things, the real location of the most northern point is seve…

The Highlands

The north of Scotland is seldom visited but definitely worth a visit (despite the distances involved and the difficulty of getting there). The northern region is comprised of three areas: Caithness on the extreme north east, Sutherland south of Caithness and

Gairloch

I sort of stumbled on this small town by accident on the way to Ullapool. With lovely beaches and mountainous terrain this small town on the west coast is definitely worth a visit. Trails follow the ocean from the old church through to the modern harbour which also offers wildlife watching cruises for tourists. Gairloch has a small tourist office attached to the community hall.

Ardvreck Castle

The traditional home of the clan MacLeod set in Loch Assynt this lonely castle is surrounded by the loch meaning that access is a bit...wet but well worth the effort. All that remains is part of a tower of what must have been a large and impressive castle.
