The small town of Hay-on-Wye (or, simply Hay) is known for it's annual (book) Hay Festival in late May that regularly attracts top authors but the city itself is worth a visit for it's numerous independent book stores and cafes, it's small town market and the beautiful scenery.

Introduction

[Great Britain - Wales]

[Criccieth Castle, Northern Wales]

Wales is a gorgeous area of the United Kingdom. It is an area well visited during the tourist season but large enough that you can get away from all that and hide yourself in some remote area, making it your own.

Sparsely inhabited, Wales is a land of mountains, lakes, seaside and forests. Sparse it might be but the Welsh are a fiercely proud people celebrating their own unique culture and language (which seeme…

Northern Wales Journal

Friday, April 30th, 1999 - Not Quite Wales

Since I have moved to England I have been getting out to see a bit of the country as well as the rest of the United Kingdom. I spend most weekends out and about doing things. Most of the time this is in London since it is so close but I am rapidly running out of things to see there (that I have not seen already) so my focus is turning a bit more afield. I tend to reserve the more extreme distances to tra…

[River Dee in Llangollen]

Llangollen is one of my favourite places to visit in Wales starting from my first trip on the winding A5 to visit Portmeirion in Gwynedd. Nestled in a valley along the river Dee, Llangollen, Denbighshire is a small town surrounded by some spectacular scenery.

[The Visitor Centre]

Introduction

Only just opening in spring 2016, the Royal Mint Experience offers the public the chance to see coins being minted and learn a bit about the process. It consists of a purpose-built visitor centre alongside the mint itself.

[Town Centre]

Wrexham (“Wrecsam” in Welsh) is a small market town located in Wrexham borough council in the north east of Wales, south west of Chester. It's history goes back many hundreds of years but the town centre is mostly dominated by high street shops, charity shops (some quite large and sell furniture), discount stores, and concrete.
