Review of 'A Game of Thrones'

A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin
1st book in the 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series

This is definitely a book of political intrigue and not really a lot of fantasy (though the closing sequences…). Very well written the story follows the Startks as Lord Eddard is appointed as the “King's Hand” and forced to make difficult decisions between his cherished honour and the needs of his position. Meanwhile, things are happening with the other members of his household and the disgruntled Khal Drago abroad. Written very well, often the political intrigue is a bit weary.

Rating: “A bit better than average”
