Review of 'The Moor's Last Sigh'

The Moor's Last Sigh by Salman Rushdie

Moraes (“Moor”) Zogoiby is the only son of the marriage of a wealthy family's daughter (Aurora da Gama – the famous artist and social elite) to an accountant (Abraham Zogoiby) employed by her family. This story follows the fantastic story of this family and it's inevitable fall – with no small part due to Moor's fanatical devotion to the love of his life, Uma. The woman who would betray him and end up dying in a superb twist of fate. Rushdie has provided a well written and provocative novel with satire and political commentary in equal parts. The pace is somewhat slow with certain parts moving very quickly as events unfold. Rushdie at his literary and story-telling best.
