Review of 'The Bean Trees'

The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver

Tyler has decide to move away from her somewhat staid lifestyle in Kentucky and drives down the highway into Arizona but unexpectedly is given a small child along the way who she comes to call “Turtle” due to the way she clings to anything that comes within reach. Tyler rebuilds her life and meets new friends as she settles down in Tucson but due to the nature of Turtles arrival in her life the inevitable questions are asked and must be dealt with. Followed by Pigs in Heaven this is Kingsolvers first novel and is a very enjoyable read with the characters having real depth and life all of their own making it very believable and touching. A good read.
