Review of 'Prayers to Broken Stones'

Prayers to Broken Stones by Dan Simmons

A short story collection from the author of Hyperion. This collection of stories ranging from fantasy to horror and the occasional science fiction is introduced by Harlan Ellison who describes how he “discovered” Dan Simmons. The stories are well written, as to be expected, with his first published story (the one Ellison first heard) begins the book, “The River Styx Runs Upstream”, telling the story of a strange future where after people die they are brought back to “life”. Particularly shocking is the “Two Minutes Forty-Five Seconds” telling an alternate view on the Challenger disaster (particularly poignant with the recent, second, disaster). All of the stories in this collection are very well written and demand the reader to read on. A definate must for all Dan Simmons fans and something to add to the wish list of everyone else.
