Review of 'Inversions'

Inversions by Iain M. Banks

A bit of a switch for Mr. Banks this time as his “Science Fiction” novel reads very much like “fantasy” to me. This novel tells two stories that take place in the same world at the same time but in different kingdoms. One story is of a lady physician to the king while the other is the story of the bodyguard to the “Protector General”. The story is very much about political intrigue and there are various hints at “extra-terrestrial” involvement (interestingly) which is perhaps why this novel is classified as “Science Fiction”. Anyway the story has a number of twists and turns which make it interesting. The novel is, as per normal for Mr. Banks, well written and easy to read though a bit tricky to follow sometimes as each chapter switches between the two stories.

Rating: “It is OK but I have some issues”

Genre: Science Fiction
