Review of 'Olive's Cypriot Food'

We stumbled across the “Crewe Market Hall” pretty much accidently when we were in Crewe looking for an Asian supermarket. We were delighted to find this clean, modern space with street food vendors selling both food and drink lining the walls and a good number of picnic tables in the middle. When we attended on a Thursday there was a rather loud “pub quiz” going on but we ignored that and looked to see what vendor we would try. We settled on “Olive's Cypriot Food” selling one of my personal favourites: Gyros. This is not to be confused with a typical kebab as it is much more refined and, in my opinion, tastier though technically it might be the same thing…hey, I know what I like and it is Gyros over kebabs.

The menu is split into “Classics” (Gyros served with tzatziki, salad and fries all together in a pita wrap), “Box Meals” (served separately in a box), “Portions” (more of a meal served on a plate), “Salads”, “Sides” (including variations on chips, hummus, olives and even a mezza platter) and “Soft Drinks”. When you order at the booth you tell them where you are sitting (we pointed at a vacant spot on a nearby table) and they bring your order to you when it is ready. You can also order from your seat using their web site which they will, again, deliver to where you are sitting.

I chose the “Mix Gyros” which is served in a wrap with chips (yes, in the wrap) and at £7.99 fairly reasonably priced. It was absolutely delicious and not a massive portion which, in my book, is a good thing though it was quite filling. The ingredients were very fresh and the wrap tasty as well. My companion had the “Feta Cheese Salad” for £5.99 which she found quite tasty as well and was a good sized portion.

We will certainly be back to not only the food hall but also to Olive's. Friendly staff and tasty, fresh food at a reasonable price.
