The Egyptian Museum in Cairo
Probably one of the most famous museums in the world, “The Egyptian Museum in Cairo” (EMC), Egypt, or rather more commonly “The Egyptian Museum” houses the world's largest collection of Egyptian antiquities spread out over two floors in countless numbers of rooms. Exhibits often are not labelled or have very brief descriptions so a guide is helpful.
It is amazing just to wander around and take it all in. Even the building is amazing just to look at and you get a real sense of history when visiting. If you want to see something specific, be sure to study the map.
The King Tutankhamen exhibit is towards the back right on the first floor with the more valuable pieces displayed in their own room where photography is not allowed.
The Future
Currently under construction, the Grand Egyptian Museum will allow the museum to exhibit far more artefacts in a modern building immediately adjacent to the Giza Plateau.
Practicalities
The entrance is off a busy street with standard ticketing and security. The site has it's own set of small restaurants and cafés around to the left of the main entrance as well as a large gift shop. Toilets are located inside the museum.
