Tenda Ba Camp

Sunset at Tenda Ba Camp

Tenda Ba Camp is a fairly large tourist camp located on the south bank of the river about 150 km from the Kombos area quite close to the town of Kwinella (about 10 km along a dirt road from the village). The camp hosts a variety of amenities including many huts with en-suite, a swimming pool, conference facilities, many nights with entertainment, great sunsets over the river, and small boat trips. The easiest way to get to the camp is either by taking a tour or by taking a bush taxi to Kwinella (on the way to Soma) then hire a donkey or horse cart to take you the 10 km from the road to the camp.

Typical Room in Tenda Ba Camp

This is a very nice nature camp that has very clean facilities and many friendly staff. A great place to get away from the hustle of the Kombos area. My favourite is the small seating area at the end of their private pier. Mosquitoes ARE a problem here though mostly during the rainy season.

Tenda Ba Dining Area

Room rates are PER PERSON regardless of the size of the room. The “VIP” rooms are en-suite all others have shared, but quite clean, facilities.

The food is excellent and the “Bush Pig Steak in Pepper Sauce” is HIGHLY recommended though the seafood, caught fresh in the nearby village, is also very good.

The camp also has periodic boat trips to a nature reserve located on the north bank of the river. These trips are highly recommended and include a small walk through the bush in search of bush pig. NOTE: There are some (less “scruitable”) people in the village that will offer a less-cost boat trip in a local fishing boat but this is no where near as good as the one offered by the camp.
