Review of 'Sunshine'
I was actually really looking forward to this long-awaited movie from Boyle with his previous movies having garnered such acclaim. I was disappointed.
A team of astronauts have been dispatched from earth to reignite the sun as it is “dying” on board a ship whose predecessor was mysteriously lost. That is about all we are told about the story we are told not much more about any of the one-dimensional characters. As they approach the sun to deliver their explosive payload things get a bit complicated with the discovery of the earlier ship orbiting the sun. Let us just say that not everyone survives the experience…It is just a matter of waiting for where and when…
Of course, the effects cannot be faulted (though there is, as to be expected, an excess of sun-based imagery) but they simply cannot hold the picture together. Disappointing.
Rating: “Average, but who wants to be average?”
