Review of 'Sam's Chicken (Delivery)'

The one thing that London has a lot of is fried chicken restaurants and if you have been here long enough you will be familiar with “Sam's” with 14 locations across the city. The other day instead of depositing once more into the corporate accounts of KFC we decided to go a bit more local for our protein fix with a delivery (via Uber Eats) from Sam's.

The menu is typical of fried chicken joints with various fried chicken pieces, and burgers along with the more adventurous peri-peri chicken. It is just a matter of figuring out whether you want a meal deal or family bucket, really. Prices, as you might expect, are reasonable but not REALLY cheap. We decided on the “Variety Bucket” (£23.10) which consists of: “6 Pieces Chicken, 2 Chicken Fillet Burger, 6 Fiery Wings, 4 Regular Fries” which is a bit pricey considering this is pretty much what you would get for the same money from any of the bigger chains. To be on the slightly virtuous side I also ordered a “Crispy Chicken Salad” (£3.63) just to see what they would give us.

Delivery took a bit of time but it was a busy Saturday though unfortunately this did mean some of the food was a bit on the tepid side rather than piping hot though, oddly, the chips were quite hot indeed…

The chicken is quite juicy with a good tasting, crispy coating though with some unusual cuts from what you may see elsewhere meaning you can often get a bit of bone where you do not really expect it. The chips were excellent: Full of flavour, perfectly crispy and fluffy inside in the more traditional American “fries” format familiar from the big chains. The meal was surprisingly not as greasy as you might expect despite all of the fried chicken on display, thankfully with no pools of grease in evidence.

The salad turned out to be a disappointment in terms of size but also with no dressing included meaning it was all a bit bland save for the chicken strips on the top. The vegetables were, it has to be said, were very fresh and clean which was a nice surprise.

Generally, quite tasty and we will definitely be giving them a try again when we crave fried chicken.
