Ross and Cromarty (Northern Highlands, Scotland)

Gairloch

I sort of stumbled on this small town by accident on the way to Ullapool. With lovely beaches and mountainous terrain this small town on the west coast is definitely worth a visit. Trails follow the ocean from the old church through to the modern harbour which also offers wildlife watching cruises for tourists. Gairloch has a small tourist office attached to the community hall.

A curious native in the harbour.

Corrieshalloch Gorge and Falls of Measach

Owned by the National Trust for Scotland, Corrieshalloch Gorge is a magnificent attraction just south of Ullapool on the A835. A car park is available (with a requested small donation) and access is fantastic with very good paths and a new suspension bridge.

Be sure to bring your walking shoes and to keep to the paths. One slip…

Ullapool

Ullapool is a small town (though large for the area) on the north west coast of Scotland. It's basic houses reflect on a time long gone but still retains an element of history. There are a few tea shops but not a lot of facilities for tourists as it remains a fishing port. The surrounding mountains are spectacular.
