Review of 'Jon Smith Subs (NOW CLOSED)'

Ever since we saw “Jon Smith Subs” in Hammersmith we were intrigued. Sub places are quite unusual in the UK (putting aside the “Subway” chain) so it was nice to see something a bit different and with the clean, cool, modern interior we decided to give it a try. The chain itself appears to have originated in the US with this location in Hammersmith the first in the UK.

Despite being dinner time there was no one else in this fast-food restaurant other than ourselves and we had to wait for a few minutes for someone to come to the counter to serve us. The menu is above the counter divided into various different types of subs including grilled and deli with the options not being all that cheap (certainly eat cheaper at Subway). We decided to try their “famous” “Steak Bomb” (small £4.95; large £7.45), “Grilled onions, peppers, mushrooms, bacon, tomato and cheddar” (though we could swear there was some bacon in there too).

We ordered our meal with a drink (£1.45) and fries (£0.95/£1.45/£1.95). The steak was cooked fresh for us so we had to sit and wait for a while but it was worth it – Delicious meat and fillings with a nice bread. I will say that even the full sized sub was still quite small compared to other restaurants. The fries (chips) were really good – Very fresh, crispy on the outside, and tender on the inside.

A bit expensive at more than £10 for the meal, but the quality was quite good and it was tasty so we might be back, perhaps to try the deli subs…if it remains open (every time we go by the place appears to be empty…).
